What is a Ventless Dryer?

In homes which are not equipped for vent-style dryer installation, ventless dryers are a good alternative. The drum of a ventless dryer constantly recirculates air to pick up moisture from the clothes, and the moisture is then condensed at a later stage via a heat exchanger. Vented dryers, on the other hand, exhaust hot, humid air outside through a dryer vent.

Ventless Dryers: How do They Work?

1

Ventless dryers are also known as condensing dryers, and they come in two varieties.

The first type of dryer uses a heater element paired with an air-to-air heat exchanger in order to condense water from humid air. Through the use of a heat exchanger, a secondary air path, known as room air, is utilized to cool the primary humid air path. As a result, water within the air condenses.

The second type uses a compressor and heat exchangers to act as a dehumidifier by condensing moisture through an evaporator heat exchanger. This process differs from the first in that heat is recovered. A secondary heat exchanger, known as a condenser, is used to recover the heat and utilize it in the drying process, which increases the dryer’s energy efficiency.
