How to Clean a Front Load Washer

Like any other home appliance, washing machines perform their best when properly maintained. Always check and follow your appliance and product use and care instructions before beginning any task, as it should be your primary source of information.
Let’s take an in-depth look at how to clean a front load washer. It’s best to complete this cleaning routine monthly to help prevent grime and soap scum buildup.

Step 1: Clean the Interior Tub with affresh® Washing Machine Cleaner Tablets

We recommend using affresh® tablets to clean your washer. Place one tablet in the empty tub, close the door, and choose a regular cleaning cycle. If you have a top load washer, run an extra rinse cycle to remove the cleaner once it’s done its work. Then, you can leave the door open so the tub will air dry completely and be ready for its next load of clothes.

Step 2: Clean the Detergent Dispenser

Most washers have dispensers for releasing laundry detergents, and these dispensers should be cleaned approximately every month as well. If your unit has one, pull it out until you feel resistance, but remember that not all dispensers are completely removable.
Thoroughly wipe the dispenser using a damp cloth with a mild cleanser, and then dry it with a towel. Note that dispensers are not dishwasher safe.

Step 3: Clean the Door Area

Both top load and front load washers can be cleaned around the door area with a damp cloth, along with their exterior and interior. To clean your front load washing machine thoroughly, you also have to wipe the whole surface of the door’s rubber seal with your damp cloth’s textured side.

Step 4: Clean the Exterior

You can use a sponge or damp cloth to wipe your unit’s exterior. We also recommend mild cleaners and soaps to avoid damaging or staining the surface. Clean all sides and sweep underneath to keep the area free from dirt and dust that can build up over time.
